The first time picking up a skateboard is always a scary thing for an individual. I remember my first time. I was thinking to myself about how much I was going to get hurt when I fell off of the board. The fear is short lasted though. Well I mean only after you have your first fall. Falling is not always the worst though. It may hurt, but after you originally fall you realize that you can just get right back up and try again.

Getting right back up and trying over and over again until you nail your trick is what skateboarding is all about. If you don't get back up and try again you only are losing your opportunity for success. Skating just takes self confidence. The biggest thing a person needs to know going into skating is committing. The hardest part of any part of skating is making sure you one-hundred percent commit to your goal because if you do not commit you will not be able to get the trick down. You cannot be afraid of falling down and getting a few scrapes or scratches.

Once you get your self-confidence up enough to commit one-hundred percent to your trick then you are ready to start learning to skate. The first step is learning how to just get moving on the silly piece of wood with wheels. In order to learn to ride on the board you need to figure out which of your feet is the dominant foot. The easiest way to solve this dilema is to have someone push you from your behind. The foot that you place in order to catch yourself it your dominant foot.

Now that you are sure that you have the first foot to put on your board, you can learn to actually stand on the board. Starting off you can place your dominant foot on the board. Foot placing is a very important part of skateboarding. To ensure the ideal amount of stability and balance, place your dominant foot, which in my case is my right foot, with the tip of your toes over the second pair of bolts on the deck. Then you can place your foot anywhere on the backside of the board to get started. Once you get the hang of things you can place your foot at the tail of board where you will be able to maneuver the board much better.

The last step of learning to ride a skateboard for your first time is pushing off. In order to learn to ride a skateboard you need to be able to get yourself moving. This part is easy don't worry. All you have to do if move your back foot to the comfortable side of the board, which in my case is my left side because I use my left foot, and you have to push off of the ground. It is easier said than done though. Once you push off you have to move your back foot back onto the board and keep your balance. Just keep practicing and you will be doing it great every single time.

Learning to skate is not always super easy for everyone, but it is very rewarding. Not only do you get to learn how to do one of the most fun activities out there, but you also get a new way of transportation. Skating is a great way to get around town. All you have to do is practice and after a while you will be amazing at riding your board. Next, you get to learn tricks but that is for another day.

You made some excellent points in this blog. I agree that it is very hard to skateboard; I remember when I tried it out for the first time. I was really scared that I would fall off. I never tried it again. I liked how you made t seem really simple because you laid it out step by step. I liked how you pushed the self- confidence bit and using your dominant foot. Overall, you did a great job!

I really like the advice that you give for skateboarding. I have skateboarded before, but I am very bad at it. I agree when you say that skateboarding is all about commitment, fearlessness, and practice. I really struggled with getting over my fear of falling, but it quickly dissipated after I fell a couple of times which is what you said. I love how you give a step by step of how to first start skateboarding. I especially liked your way of determining the dominant foot on a skateboard.

I completely agree that starting skating is very scary because you are afraid of getting hurt. When I first tried to skate, I was very scared that I was going to fall and get hurt. I also had trouble balancing. If you include a picture of the proper placements for your feet on the skateboard that would be useful. Overall, this was very informative and helpful for beginners. If you include a video of somebody skating that would also help your readers understand skating better.
