The Japanese Car Culture

Japan has one of the largest car scenes of any countries. They are the producers of many different automobile companies like Honda/Acura, Nissan/Infiniti, Toyota/Lexus, Mazda, Subaru, Mitsubishi, and many more. Each of these companies has created a wide variety of cool sports cars that have been popular for decades. Many people like to modify or "tune" their cars to look cooler, go fasters, or sound better. Different cars have different groups behind them, but there are a few that sick out of the crowd. These sore thumbs are the Mazda RX-7, Nissan GTR, and the Toyota Supra.

The first car that speaks tuner culture is the 1997 Toyota Supra. It comes stock (what is comes with from the factory) with 320 horsepower (hp) and it is has a curved design. Straight from the factory the car just looks like a basic sports car for car enthusiasts, but it holds much more potential. The engine that comes in the Supra is called a 2JZ. It is an inline-6-cylinder that comes with forged components that makes it a great vessel for more horsepower. They are capable of up to 1600 horsepower on mostly stock parts. The car also comes in both right and left-handed drive. This means that you can find them with a steering wheel on the right or left side. The driver's seat is built to resemble a fighter jet with all of the dials and buttons facing the driver.

The next car that has a lot of culture behind it is the Nissan GTR. This is one of Nissian's most popular cars that has had a long life span on its side. The car was first made in 1970 and it still being produced today. The car was first made as a 4 door compact sedan that was supposed to match the aesthetics of the American Muscle in a smaller form factor. They were a major dirt racing car until the R32 was introduced in the early '90s. The R32 was a more street ready racer. There was another major improvement in the R34 in the late 90's and early 2000's. Now they were 2 door coupes with spoilers to give additional downforce. The lastest creation for the GTR's is the R35 and it changed the GTR name from sports car to supercar with its huge V6 that gives out over 500 horsepower.

The last car that has people going crazy is the Mazda RX-7. This car is a little extra special compared to the other ones. It comes with a 3 rotor engine. This is nothing like the normal combustion engine. A rotary engine uses a rotating object to create sparks to power the movement of the vehicle. They are not nearly as realiable as a normal engine because they have to be rebuilt every couple years but they create a unique pitched sound that many car people love. The 1997 RX-7 is the most popular with its basic design that can be modified to look like a crazy beast.

Japan is just a special place for all car lovers and many go to visit to see the places that they car were inspired from. I have also included a video that will show the cool cars in their primes as modified perfection. I hope this shows that anything can change and to always see the brighter side of even the worst.
